PALMER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT WINS MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD

(L to R) James C. Swartz, President & CEO of CareFlite, Ricky E. McElhaney, Palmer Fire Chief, and Ellis County Pct. #1 Commissioner Dennis Robinson

Grand Prairie, Texas

CareFlite awarded a Meritorious Service Award to the Palmer Volunteer Fire Department Monday evening in Palmer, Texas . The ceremony was delayed while the department responded to a structure fire. The structure was saved.

In presenting the award, Mr. Swartz spoke of the importance of volunteer fire companies – and volunteers, in rural communities. Commissioner Dennis Robinson, a resident of Palmer, represented Ellis County at the ceremony. Palmer Fire Chief Ricky McElhaney accepted the award on behalf of the department. Palmer VFD was nominated by James Shelton, EMT of CareFlite. The nomination read:

“On December 23, 2007 my partner and I had the pleasure of working along side a few of the Palmer VD Responders. We were returning a Patient home just in time for the holidays, and were in need of lift assistance getting the patient into the house and settled in. While unloading the patient the responders knew just exactly how the task had to be performed to safely get the patient back to her room and into her bed. I was totally impressed with the performance of these members. The responders were prompt, professional. knowledgeable about the task at hand, worked efficiently, caring towards the patient, courteous, and most importantly they worked safely. The members showed their true dedication to their community, and towards an outside agency. Without the help of the Palmer VFD the safe return of the patient wouldn't have been possible. It was my pleasure to have worked along side such and outstanding group of professionals.”
